The village of Tolo, primarily a fishing village located in the county of Argolida, has a spectacular beauty sprawling out along the picturesque beach and surrounded by a protective circle of mountains, having the advantages of being both open and secluded. Drive around the area and explore every nook and cranny of this part of Peloponnese. Make sure to visit Nafplio, the first capital of Hellenic Republic on 1821, take a swim at its close-by Karathona beach or Psili Ammos in Tolo. Enjoy your stay in Tolo by driving around east Peloponnese and finding out why it’s one of the most beautiful places in Greek mainland. It’s time to leave Tolo area and drive to another seaside region, Porto Heli. Porto Heli is situated on a bay of the Argolic Gulf and the ancient city of Halieis (named “Halike” by Pausanias), is situated nearby. Apart from the nice beaches of the area, you should definitely take the local ferry to Spetses, a picturesque island where no cars are allowed within the town’s limits. Walk around its amazing streets full with little shops, cafeterias and taverns, hire a horse-carriage for a romantic ride or just visit one of its close-by beaches, such as Kaiki beach for some relaxing with a mouthwatering cocktail. If you are a sea-lover, you should definitely visit Ermioni, a beautiful coastal town facing the islands of Hydra and Dokos. The sea there is amazing and you should really go for a swim there. But the area is not only famous for its beaches; it has also a cultural aspect as it has been continuously inhabited, at least since the times of Homer. During the classic era it was well known for its shipbuilders and also for the production of porphyra, a very important red dye, used for the coloring of the uniforms of many armies including that of Alexander the Great. Drive around the area and explore a whole new world of the Greek countryside.
